A robber was accidentally stabbed in the back by his partner as the pair held up a 70-year-old man on a Blue Line train downtown early Wednesday morning, police said.
The two approached the man inside the O’Hare-bound car near the LaSalle Street station around 12:30 a.m. after following him from the Kedzie stop on the West Side, police said.
One of the robbers walked up and accused the man of taking his phone, police said. The man tried to get to the other end of the car but the two followed him, hitting him and kicking him in the face while he was on the ground, then taking his wallet, police said.
One of the robbers tried to stab the man but accidentally stuck his 24-year-old partner, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he struggled to get out of his bed and spit on officers and had to be subdued, police said.
The 70-year-old man was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with face wounds. Police said he may have suffered a fracture during the beating.
The second attacker escaped capture.
