Trains on the CTA's Blue Line were delayed this evening because of a rubbish fire near Chicago Avenue.

Rubbish on the tracks near the Chicago Avenue station caused trains to be halted in both directions about 7 p.m. as firefighters investigated. The fire was out by about 7:15 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department. This morning, trains were delayed between Damen and Racine Avenues because of a rubbish fire.

There was light smoke in the subway tunnel this evening, according to the Fire Department.

For a time, trains were not running between the LaSalle and Damen stations, with shuttle bus service running instead, but trains began moving again about 7:45 p.m. Check the CTA website for service updates.
