A great jazz soiree takes root in Elmhurst

"I'm always amazed at how they do it, and how well the community supports it," says Alkyer. "You look at this festival and smile and you just know that jazz is alive and well."

Thursday
High school invitational, noon. Performance by Denis diBlasio, Bobby Floyd, Dennis Mackrel and Byron Stripling with the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. 4 p.m. $8.

Friday
College ensembles, 11:30 a.m. $10-$12.

Dave Douglas Quintet. Performance by college ensembles and Douglas' band; 7:30 p.m. $20-$25.

Saturday
Clinic, with Floyd, Mackrel and Stripling; 9:30 a.m. Free.

College ensembles, 11:30 a.m. $10-$12.

Maria Schneider Orchestra. Performance by college ensembles and Schneider's group; 7:30 p.m. $30-$35 (sold out).

Sunday
College ensembles, 11:30 a.m. Performance by Floyd, Mackrel and Stripling with the Elmhurst College Jazz Ensemble, 4:30 p.m. $14-$18.
