10 years of iPods
In October 2001, Apple introduced iPod, a digital music player with a distinctive white body and headphones. In the 10 years since, the company says it has sold hundreds of millions of the devices. Below, some milestones in the evolution of the most popular digital music player.

2001: Apple presents iPod, offering "1,000 songs in your pocket." It uses a hard drive to provide 5 or 10 gigabytes of storage.
2002: The second generation iPod is compatible with Windows and can hold up to 4,000 songs on 10 to 20 gigabytes.
