Woodlawn on Monday saw its fifth homicide of the year, which puts it among the community areas with the most homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 46-year-old woman was found beaten to death Monday in the 1500 block of East 65th Street, police said. That was Woodlawn’s second homicide this month. Humboldt Park also has recorded five homicides this year, RedEye determined.
Woodlawn saw eight homicides last year and 10 homicides in 2009, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in East Garfield Park, West Englewood and West Pullman in the last week, RedEye found.
So far March has seen 15 homicides. Thirty-one homicides were recorded in March of last year, RedEye determined.
