Woodlawn saw two homicides in two days this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Tuesday, a 23-year-old woman was found shot to death in the 6400 block of South Eberhart Avenue, officials said. Two days earlier, a man believed to be in his 50s was fatally shot in the 6600 block of South Blackstone Avenue, police said.
Woodlawn has recorded 19 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The South Side community area logged 12 homicides last year.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Armour Square, Austin, Chatham, Englewood, Fuller Park, South Shore and Uptown, according to police information.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday in the 1200 block of South Sawyer Avenue, police said.
November ended last week with 36 homicides, down from 39 homicides in November 2011, RedEye data shows.
Five homicides have been recorded so far this month. Thirty-seven homicides were logged in December last year, according to RedEye data.
