West Garfield Park this week saw two homicides in 13 hours, police said.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street, officials said. Thirteen hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4200 block of West Jackson Boulevard, police said.

West Garfield Park has recorded 14 homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. The West Side community area logged 18 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Albany Park, Chatham, Greater Grand Crossing and Irving Park, RedEye determined.

Fifteen homicides have been logged so far in December. Police recorded 25 homicides in December last year, RedEye found.
