West Garfield Park has recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 24-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street, police said. A 33-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday in the 4000 block of West Gladys Avenue, according to officials.
West Garfield Park has logged two homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 13 homicides in 2012, RedEye data shows.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Chatham, Gage Park, the Lower West Side, the Near North Side, West Englewood, West Pullman and West Town, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death Saturday in the 8300 block of South Kingston Avenue in South Chicago, police said.
Fourteen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty homicides were logged in January last year, according to RedEye data.
