West Englewood saw two homicides in two days last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 55-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 6200 block of South Laflin Street, police said. Two days earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot to death in the 1400 block of West 73rd Street, according to officials.
West Englewood has recorded 11 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The community area logged 28 homicides last year, according to the data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chicago Lawn, New City, Roseland and South Lawndale, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman was beaten to death last week in Washington Heights, and an 18-month-old Grand Boulevard boy died Sunday after being abused, officials said.
Forty-two homicides have been logged so far this month. Police recorded 54 homicides in June last year, RedEye found.
