West Englewood saw two homicides in one day last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On May 12, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 6400 block of South Hoyne Avenue and a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said.
West Englewood has recorded seven homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. The community area saw 28 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, fatal shootings were recorded in Englewood, Humboldt Park, Oakland, South Deering and Washington Park in the last week, according to officials. Meanwhile, a woman was found fatally beaten in South Lawndale in the last week, police said.
There have been 12 homicides so far in May, RedEye data shows. Forty-eight homicides were recorded in May last year, RedEye determined.
