West Englewood on Monday logged its sixth homicide of the month and 11th homicide of the year, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data.

On Monday, a 56-year-old man was shot to death in the 1500 block of West 72nd Street, police said.

West Englewood leads community areas in homicides this month and has posted the fourth highest homicide toll of 2014, behind Austin, Chicago Lawn and West Garfield Park, as of Wednesday afternoon, RedEye determined.

West Englewood logged 21 homicides last year, up from 20 killings in 2012, RedEye found.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Austin, Chicago Lawn, Hermosa and Rogers Park, according to police information.

Twenty-six homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-three homicides were recorded in July 2013, RedEye determined.
