Washington Park saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 26-year-old man was beaten to death Saturday in the 5100 block of South Ellsworth Drive, police said. Three days earlier, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to officials.
Washington Park has logged three homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 13 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Gage Park, Riverdale, South Chicago and West Town, according to police information.
Meanwhile, there were two stabbing fatalities this week. A man believed to be in his 30s was stabbed to death Tuesday in the 6000 block of South Kolmar Avenue in West Lawn, officals said.
Two days earlier, a 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 1700 block of West 21st Place on the Lower West Side, police said.
Fifteen homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-four homicides were recorded in September 2012, RedEye determined.
