Uptown recorded two homicides in the last week, according to preliminary police data.
A 23-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 1100 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, police said. Three days earlier, a 34-year-old man was found beaten to death in the 4500 block of North Clarendon Avenue, according to officials.
Uptown has seen three homicides so far this year. The community area logged four homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Greater Grand Crossing, the Near West Side and West Englewood, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a woman was found strangled to death Sunday in the 5400 block of South Calumet Avenue in Washington Park, officials said. Also, a 47-year-old man was beaten to death last week in the 1400 block of South Kenneth Avenue in North Lawndale, police said.
Thirty-four homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 60 homicides in August last year, RedEye found.
