South Lawndale on Tuesday recorded a double homicide, the first female double homicide since February, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 5-year-old girl and 28-year-old woman were shot to death in the 2800 block of South Kildare Avenue, police said.
The last time two women were killed in a double homicide was Feb. 20 in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue in Chatham, RedEye determined.
South Lawndale has recorded seven homicides so far this year. The West Side community area logged 13 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Douglas, Humboldt Park, South Chicago, South Shore and Woodlawn, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man was stabbed to death Aug. 8 in the 0-100 block of West Brayton Street in West Pullman, police said.
Eighteen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Fifty-seven homicides were logged in August 2012, according to RedEye data.
