South Lawndale saw two homicides in two days in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Sunday, a 15-year-old boy was shot to death in the 3000 block of South Kedvale Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 3800 block of West 26th Street, according to officials.
South Lawndale has logged three homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 10 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Greater Grand Crossing, New City and West Englewood, according to police information.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old man was beaten to death Jan. 22 in the 7000 block of South Claremont Avenue in Chicago Lawn, officials said.
Twenty-one homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-four homicides were recorded in January 2013, RedEye found.
