South Lawndale saw two homicides in one day last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

On Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue and a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 2600 block of South Kedvale Avenue, officials said.

South Lawndale has recorded 14 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The community area logged 16 homicides last year.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Albany Park, Auburn Gresham, Chicago Lawn, Gage Park, Humboldt Park, Washington Park and West Englewood, RedEye determined.

Thirty-one homicides have been recorded so far this month—the same number of homicides police recorded in September last year, RedEye found.
