Chatham and the Near West Side each saw a homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Chatham, a 23-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 8300 block of South Ellis Avenue, police said.
Chatham has logged eight homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 12 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
On the Near West Side, a 55-year-old man was fatally shot Oct. 17 in the 1900 block of West Ogden Avenue, according to officials.
The Near West Side has logged five homicides so far this year. The community area recorded 16 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, 21 homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-one homicides were logged in October 2012, according to RedEye data.
