Two children were shot to death in separate incidents Friday, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police found.

A 16-year-old boy was shot to death in the first block of East 43rd Street in Grand Boulevard, and an 11-year-old girl was fatally shot in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue in West Garfield Park, according to officials.

Thirty-four children under the age of 18 have been killed in homicides this year, out of 218 homicide victims as of Wednesday afternoon, RedEye determined.

Fifty-six children were killed last year, down from 60 children in 2012, according to RedEye data. There were 440 homicides in 2013 and 522 homicides in 2012, RedEye found.

Meanwhile, in Austin, two men were shot to death in separate incidents Saturday, according to officials.

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 900 block of North Mayfield Avenue, and a 30-year-old man was shot to death in the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to officials.

Austin has logged 23 homicides so far this year. The community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 killings in 2012.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Brighton Park, Chicago Lawn, Edgewater and West Englewood, RedEye determined.

Thirty-four homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-three homicides were recorded in July 2013, RedEye determined.
