Nine of the 14 homicide victims killed in Chicago in the last week were in their 20s, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police and autopsy information.
The victims were killed by gunshot wounds in Austin, Chatham, Englewood, Humboldt Park, the Near North Side, Riverdale, South Chicago and West Englewood, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, in Gage Park, a 20-year-old man was run over Sunday in the 5700 block of South St. Louis Avenue, police said.
In the first half of this year, victims in their 20s represented a third of Chicago's 186 homicide victims. Last year, they represented about 44 percent, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, homicides also occurred in the last week in Logan Square, the Near South Side, North Lawndale, South Chicago and West Pullman, RedEye found.
Forty-six homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-nine homicides were logged in July 2012, according to RedEye data.
