Humboldt Park and Washington Park this week each recorded their third homicides of the month, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Humboldt Park, a 15-year-old boy was shot to death Sunday in the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue, police said.
Humboldt Park has logged 22 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area recorded 29 homicides last year.
In Washington Park, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in the 400 block of East 60th Street, police said.
Washington Park has seen nine homicides so far this year—the same number it logged in 2010, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Grand Boulevard and West Garfield Park, according to police.
Meanwhile, a 2-month-old South Shore girl died last week from wounds sustained in child abuse, officials said.
Thirty-six homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 31 homicides in September last year, RedEye found.
