Englewood and Humboldt Park each saw two homicides in the past week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary Chicago police data.
In Englewood, a 29-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 7200 block of South Morgan Street, police said. One day earlier, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5500 block of South Emerald Avenue, according to officials.
Englewood, which had about 30,600 residents counted in the 2010 Census, has loose borders of Garfield Boulevard on the north, 75th Street on the south, Normal Avenue on the east and Racine Avenue on the west.
Englewood has logged 10 homicides so far this year, the sixth highest toll among Chicago's 77 community areas. The South Side community area recorded 23 homicides last year, up from 21 killings in 2012, according to RedEye data.
In Humboldt Park, a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death Friday in the 3900 block of West North Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4100 block of West Crystal Street, according to officials.
Humboldt Park, which had about 56,000 residents counted in the 2010 Census, has loose borders of Bloomingdale Avenue on the north, Kinzie Street on south, Humboldt Park on the east and Belt Railway on the west.
Humboldt Park has logged 11 homicides so far this year, the fifth highest toll among Chicago's 77 community areas. The West Side community area recorded 14 homicides last year, down from 18 killings in 2012, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the past week in Auburn Gresham, Chicago Lawn, Morgan Park, the Near North Side, New City, South Lawndale, South Shore and West Garfield Park, according to police information.
July ended last week with 40 homicides, down from 53 homicides in July 2013, RedEye found.
Eleven homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-three homicides were recorded in August 2013, RedEye determined.
