Rogers Park and South Deering, two community areas that don't often see homicides, each recorded one homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In South Deering, a man believed to be in his 40s was found shot to death Friday in the 2400 block of East 116th Street, officials said.
This was South Deering's first homicide of the year, RedEye determined. The community area recorded one homicide last year, according to RedEye data.
Rogers Park also saw its first homicide of the year this past week. An 18-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 1600 block of West Lunt Avenue, police said.
Rogers Park recorded three homicides last year, RedEye found.
Austin and Woodlawn also each saw a gunshot homicide in the last week, RedEye determined.
So far March has seen six homicides. Thirty-one homicides were recorded in March of last year, RedEye determined.
