Chicago violence: April's homicides breakdown

Twenty-four homicides were logged in Chicago in April, down from 41 homicides in April 2012, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. In April, five community areas logged their first homicides of the month: Chicago Lawn, Hyde Park, Irving Park, Washington Park and West Ridge, RedEye determined. Through the end of April, 38 community areas, about half of Chicago's 77 community areas, have recorded at least one homicide.
