West Englewood and West Garfield Park each recorded a gunshot homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In West Englewood, a 35-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 2000 block of West 67th Street, police said.
West Englewood has recorded two homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged 21 homicides last year, up from 19 homicides in 2012, RedEye determined.
In West Garfield Park, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot March 13 in the 4000 block of West Van Buren Street, police said.
West Garfield Park has recorded four homicides so far this year. The West Side community area logged 16 homicides last year, up from 13 homicides in 2012, RedEye found.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man was found stabbed to death Tuesday in the 5000 block of West Gladys Avenue in Austin, police said.
Also this week, a 1-year-old Douglas girl was found dead after suffering wounds associated with child abuse, officials said.
Citywide, 12 homicides have been recorded so far this month. Seventeen homicides were recorded in March 2013, according to RedEye data.
