Chicago Lawn saw a double homicide last week, Chicago's first double homicide in three months, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
Two men, ages 30 and 22, were discovered fatally shot in the 7100 block of South Oakley Avenue, police said.
Chicago Lawn has logged three homicides so far this year. The Southwest Side community area recorded 22 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
The last double homicide was Feb. 20, when two women were shot to death in a Chatham apartment, according to police data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Austin, Humboldt Park, Hyde Park, Morgan Park, the Near North Side, Roseland and South Shore, RedEye found.
West Pullman has seen two homicides this week. A man was shot to death Wednesday in the 12200 block of South Halsted Street, police said. Three days earlier, a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the 12100 block of South Indiana Avenue.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man was stabbed to death May 23 in the 1900 block of South Spaulding Avenue in North Lawndale, police said.
Thirty-eight homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-one homicides were recorded in May 2012, RedEye determined.
