Englewood has logged three homicides this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A man was fatally shot Wednesday in the 7500 block of South Union Avenue, police said. A 27-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 5700 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 25-year-old man was fatally shot in the 6400 block of South Morgan Street, according to officials.
Englewood has logged 18 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 21 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Meanwhile, Avalon Park saw two homicides in the last week. A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Aug. 29 in the 7900 block of South Avalon Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 35-year-old man was shot to death in the 8200 block of South Avalon Avenue, according to officials.
Avalon Park has recorded four homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged no homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Gunshot homicides also were logged in the last week in Bridgeport, Morgan Park, the Near North Side, New City, Roseland, West Pullman and Woodlawn, RedEye found.
Citywide, there were three homicides by stabbing in the last week, according to police information. A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue in Belmont Cragin.
On Friday, a 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the 4000 block of South Indiana Avenue in Grand Boulevard. One day earlier, a 51-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 7100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in South Shore.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman was found beaten to death Monday in the 4100 block of West Wilcox Street in West Garfield Park, according to an autopsy.
August ended last week with 51 homicides, down from 57 homicides in August 2012, according to RedEye data.
Seven homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-four homicides were recorded in September 2012, RedEye determined.
