Englewood recorded two homicides in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data.
A 51-year-old man was found beaten to death Monday in the 700 block of West 61st Street, officials said. Five days earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot to death in the 6700 block of South Sangamon Street, according to police.
Englewood has logged 15 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 21 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in East Garfield Park, Greater Grand Crossing, McKinley Park, South Chicago, West Englewood and West Garfield Park, according to police data.
Meanwhile, two men were stabbed to death in separate incidents this week. A 51-year-old man was fatally stabbed Wednesday in the 3900 block of West Division Street in Humboldt Park, police said. One day earlier, a 53-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 3900 block of North Long Avenue in Portage Park, according to officials.
On Sunday, a 3-month-old Washington Heights boy died after suffering injuries sustained from child abuse, according to an autopsy.
Forty-two homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-seven homicides were logged in August 2012, according to RedEye data.
