East Garfield Park and Roseland each have recorded two homicides in the last two weeks, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Roseland, a 19-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 11300 block of South Edbrooke Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the 11100 block of South Vernon Avenue, according to officials.
Roseland has recorded 16 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged 18 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
In East Garfield Park, a 27-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 3100 block of West Arthington Street, police said. Six days earlier, a 32-year-old man was fatally shot in the 300 block of South Sacramento Boulevard, according to officials.
East Garfield Park has logged nine homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded six homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last two weeks in Edgewater, Rogers Park, South Chicago, South Deering and West Pullman, based on police information.
Meanwhile, two women were stabbed to death in the last two weeks. A 39-year-old woman was stabbed to death Nov. 28 in the 4800 block of North Moody Avenue in Jefferson Park, police said. A week earlier, a 27-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the 2200 block of South Sacramento Avenue in South Lawndale, according to officials.
November ended last week with 27 homicides, down from 38 homicides in November 2012, RedEye found.
Four homicides have been recorded so far this month. Twenty-seven homicides were logged in December 2012, RedEye determined.
