Auburn Gresham and Garfield Ridge each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Garfield Ridge, two women, ages 51 and 79, were strangled to death in the 5600 block of South Neenah Avenue, according to officials.
Garfield Ridge has logged two homicides so far this year. The Southwest Side community area recorded one homicide last year, according to RedEye data.
Auburn Gresham saw two homicides Sept. 19. A 29-year-old woman was shot to death in the 7900 block of Wood Street, and a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7700 block of South Sangamon Street, according to officials.
Auburn Gresham has logged 13 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 16 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, the Near West Side, South Shore and West Englewood, according to police information.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old woman was found stabbed to death Monday in the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue in Douglas, police said.
Thirty-two homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-four homicides were recorded in September 2012, RedEye determined.
