Chicago on Friday logged its 250th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

An 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 6800 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue in Woodlawn, police said.

Chicago reached 250 homicides in 2012 on June 24 and in 2011 on Aug. 3, RedEye determined.

Homicides are down year-to-date 23 percent versus 2012 and 4 percent compared to 2011.

The city has logged 15 homicides so far this month, as of Sunday morning. Fifty-seven homicides were recorded in August 2012, according to RedEye data.
