Chatham logged four homicides in the last week, a RedEye review of preliminary police data found.
An 18-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 7900 block of South Vincennes Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 29-year-old man was shot to death in the 900 block of East 81st Street, according to officials.
On Saturday, a 55-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to officials.
Chatham has recorded five homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged 12 homicides last year, the same number as in 2012, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Austin, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, North Lawndale and Washington Heights, according to police information.
April ended last week with 35 homicides, up from 24 homicides in April 2013, RedEye determined.
Eight homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-six homicides were recorded in May 2013, RedEye found.
