Austin saw three homicides last weekend, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Sunday, a 53-year-old man was shot to death in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4800 block of West Iowa Street, according to officials.
On Friday, a 40-year-old man was shot to death in the 200 block of North Mayfield Avenue, police said.
Austin has logged nine homicides so far this year. The Chicago community area recorded 37 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Auburn Gresham, Douglas, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing and New City, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a woman was found strangled to death in the 3100 block of North Kimball Avenue in Avondale, police said.
Twenty-four homicides have been logged so far this month. Fifty-one homicides were recorded in May 2012, RedEye determined.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
