Two men were shot to death in Austin in the last two weeks, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Saturday, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the 300 block of North Central Avenue, police said. Six days earlier, a 26-year-old man was shot to death in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue, according to officials.
Austin has logged 28 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 37 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Citywide, gunshot homicides have been logged in the last two weeks in Avalon Park, Englewood, Logan Square, Morgan Park, New City, North Lawndale, Roseland, South Shore and Woodlawn, according to RedEye data.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 9600 block of South Merrion Avenue in South Deering, police said. On Dec. 7, a 2-year-old South Chicago girl suffered a fatal head injury that was linked to child abuse, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined.
Seventeen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Twenty-seven homicides were logged in December 2012, RedEye determined.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
