Austin saw two homicides in two days last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 32-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the 5500 block of West Washington Boulevard, police said. Two days earlier, a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the 0-100 block of South Mason Avenue, according to officials.
Austin has logged four homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 homicides in 2012, RedEye found.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Armour Square and South Chicago, based on police information.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old woman was found strangled to death Friday in the 600 block of North Homan Avenue in Humboldt Park, police said.
Seventeen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Fourteen homicides were logged in February 2013, according to RedEye data.
