Austin saw two homicides in two days this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Monday, a 54-year-old man was shot to death in the 500 block of North Leamington Avenue, police said. A day earlier, a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 500 block of North Long Avenue, according to officials.
Austin has recorded 15 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area saw 23 homicides last year.
Citywide, fatal gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing, New City and South Lawndale, according to officials.
Twenty-six homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 60 homicides in August last year, RedEye found.
