Austin and Hermosa each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data shows.
In Hermosa, a man and woman, both 57, were killed Sunday in an auto crash in the 4400 block of West Diversey Avenue, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled their deaths homicides.
In Austin, a 16-year-old boy was shot to death Saturday in the 1500 block of North Leamington Avenue, police said. A day earlier, a 32-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street, according to officials.
Citywide, fatal shootings were recorded in Avondale, Calumet Heights, Chicago Lawn, Humboldt Park, Logan Square, North Lawndale, Pullman, Rogers Park, Roseland, South Chicago, South Shore and West Pullman in the last week, RedEye data shows.
There have been 28 homicides so far in May. Forty-eight homicides were recorded in May last year, RedEye determined.
