Austin and Greater Grand Crossing each saw two homicides in the last week, putting them among the community areas with the most homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Austin, a 17-year-old boy was shot to death Sunday in the 5300 block of West Ferdinand Street, police said.
Three days earlier, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4100 block of West Potomac Avenue, according to officials.
In Greater Grand Crossing, a 38-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 7500 block of South Calumet Avenue, police said.
A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1000 block of East 75th Street three days earlier, according to officials.
In 2011, Austin and Greater Grand Crossing each have recorded five homicides, the same number Humboldt Park and Woodlawn have logged, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, on Monday, a fatal shooting was recorded in Hermosa and a fatal assault was recorded in Lincoln Park, according to officials.
So far March has seen 21 homicides. Thirty-one homicides were recorded in March of last year, RedEye determined.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
