Austin and Bridgeport each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Austin, two men, ages 20 and 24, were shot to death Tuesday in the 200 block of South Laramie Avenue, police said.
Austin has logged 22 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 23 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
In Bridgeport, a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 3400 block of South Morgan Street, police said. A day earlier, a 73-year-old woman was beaten to death in the 3300 block of South Parnell Avenue, according to officials.
Bridgeport has logged three homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded two homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Belmont Cragin, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, Roseland, South Shore and West Garfield Park, RedEye found.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man was beaten to death Saturday in the 2100 block of South St. Louis Avenue in North Lawndale, police said.
Thirty-three homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 35 homicides in October 2010, RedEye found.
