Three South Side community areas each have recorded two homicides this month, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Chicago Lawn, a 17-year-old girl was shot and killed Tuesday in the 3000 block of West 64th Street, police said (story on page 9). Nine days earlier, a 16-year-old boy was shot to death in the 6900 block of South Oakley Avenue, according to officials.
In Auburn Gresham, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 8100 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. Three days earlier, a 41-year-old man was shot and killed in the 1300 block of West 87th Street, according to officials.
In Roseland, a 29-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 8800 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. Also last week, a 3-month-old Roseland girl died from injuries sustained in child abuse, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last two weeks in Englewood, Grand Boulevard, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, New City, North Lawndale, Rogers Park, South Chicago, South Deering, West Pullman, West Town and Woodlawn, RedEye data shows.
Twenty homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 60 homicides in August last year, RedEye found.
