Portage Park and South Lawndale each have recorded two homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Portage Park, a 21-year-old man was shot to death Friday in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, police said. Portage Park logged four homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
In South Lawndale, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 4100 block of West 30th Street, officials said. South Lawndale recorded 13 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman was shot to death Friday on the Lake Shore Drive ramp to the Stevenson Expressway, police said.
January ended last week with 43 homicides, up from 40 homicides, RedEye determined.
Police had initially said a woman was beaten to death Jan. 27 in Auburn Gresham but the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the woman died of natural causes.
Three homicides have been logged so far this month. Twenty-nine homicides were recorded in February 2012, according to RedEye data.
