North Lawndale and West Garfield Park each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 51-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 1300 block of South Christiana Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue, according to officials.
North Lawndale has logged three homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 19 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
In West Garfield Park, a 23-year-old man was shot to death Friday in the 400 block of South Pulaski Road, police said. Two days earlier, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 100 block of South Springfield Avenue, officials said.
West Garfield Park has recorded four homicides so far this year. The West Side community area logged 13 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Austin, South Lawndale, South Shore, West Englewood and West Town, RedEye determined.
Twenty-five homicides have been logged so far this year. Forty homicides were recorded in January 2012, RedEye data shows.
