Two community areas saw their first homicide of 2011 in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Bridgeport, a 33-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 3100 block of South Green Street, police said. The community area recorded two homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
In the Lower West Side, a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot June 16 in the 2000 block of South Canalport Avenue, police said. The community area recorded four homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
New City and Austin also recorded a gunshot homicide in the last week.
Thirty-four homicides have been logged so far this month. Police recorded 54 homicides in June last year, RedEye found.
