Two Chicago community areas -- Calumet Heights and Morgan Park -- logged their first homicide of 2014 last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Calumet Heights, a 22-year-old man was shot to death Friday in the 9300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, police said.
Calumet Heights logged one homicide last year, down from six killings in 2012, RedEye determined.
In Morgan Park, a 37-year-old woman was fatally shot Friday in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to officials.
Morgan Park recorded five homicides last year, up from four killings in 2012, RedEye found.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in South Lawndale, West Garfield Park and West Pullman, according to police information.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman was strangled to death Wednesday in the 1200 block of North Rockwell Street in West Town, police said.
Fifteen homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-six homicides were recorded in May 2013, RedEye found.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
