East Garfield Park on Monday saw its second homicide of the month, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

A 20-year-old man was shot to death in the 600 block of South Sacramento Avenue, officials said. Earlier this month, a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in East Garfield Park.

The community area has seen two homicides so far this year, RedEye found. East Garfield Park recorded 11 homicides last year, based on RedEye data

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in Auburn Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing and West Englewood in the past week, RedEye determined. The victims were men between the ages of 19 and 24, according to officials.

So far this month, 13 homicides have been recorded. Twenty-three homicides were logged in February 2010, based on RedEye data. TSWARTZ@TRIBUNE.COM
