Two charged in Gage Park murder

Two men were charged with first-degree murder in connection with a July 4 shooting on Western Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to police.

Bail was denied for Tommie Harris, 25, and a $500,000 bail was set for Quintion Humphries, 19, in bond court Saturday. Each is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Harris, 25, lives in the 5200 block of South Racine Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Humphries, 19, lives in the 5100 block of South Marshfield Avenue.

The two are charged with shooting Shavonte Howard to death in the 5600 block of South Western Avenue just after noon Thursday. Police said the pair were in a car, flashed gang signs and shot at Howard while he was in another car.
