1 killed, 4 wounded in shootings overnight in Chicago

One person was killed and at least four other people were wounded in shootings on the South and Southwest sides overnight, police said.

Around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, a gunman walked up and shot two men as they stood on a corner in the 6700 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood, according to Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Ronald Henry, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:34 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. A 24-year-old man was grazed in the leg and taken to St. Bernard's Hospital, police said.

Earlier, around 9 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the arm and chest when two people stepped out of an alley and opened fire, Greer said. The man had been standing outside with friends in the 6500 block of South Hoyne Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious to critical condition, according to the fire department.

In another attack at 5:05 p.m., a 26-year-old man was in his car when a gunman on a bicycle shot him in the abdomen in the 2800 block of West 64th Street in the Marquette Park neighborhood, according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, O’Brien said.

Around 5:35 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 2400 block of West 70th Street in the Lithuanian Plaza neighborhood, O’Brien said. The 18-year-old was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, according to the officer.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings, police said.
