Four people were wounded in South Side shootings Wednesday afternoon and a fifth wounded in a Near West Side attack early Thursday morning.

The most recent shooting happened in the 1000 block of West Van Buren Street about 1:50 a.m. Police said someone fired into a 44-year-old man's eastbound car five times and hit the driver in the abdomen and arm.

The man's car crashed into a building at the corner of Aberdeen and Van Buren streets after the shooting. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and taken into surgery just before 3 a.m.

The shooter fired from inside a dark sedan and the attack may have been prompted by an earlier argument in a nearby restaurant, police said.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder at 3:55 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Sangamon Street, said police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

The Chicago Fire Department said the 26-year-old man was taken with a shoulder wound to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition had been stabilized.

In a separate shooting in the South Shore neighborhood about 5:25 p.m., someone shot the 52-year-old woman in the arm in the 2700 block of East 79th Street, according to O’Brien.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, O'Brien said.

Area South detectives are investigating.

A 21-year-old man walked into Jackson Park Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left foot and another to his right calf about 7:15 p.m. He told police he was shot in the 6200 block of South Eberhart Avenue.

About 9:30 p.m. a 19-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, legs and abdomen. Someone shot him in a parking lot in the 1800 block of East 79th Street, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
