Southwest Side shooting injures man, 26

A 26-year-old man was shot early this morning in the Southwest Side's Ashburn neighborhood, authorities said.

About 12:40 a.m., an unknown assailant  approached and started shooting as the man and two other people were standing in a gangway in the 2900 block of West Columbus Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man sustained several gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His condition was stabilized, Greer said.

The shooter fled the scene on foot, and no suspects were in custody as Area Central detectives investigated.
