A 40-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery in one of two shootings since Monday evening on the city's West Side, authorities said.
About 12:20 a.m., the 40-year-old was walking through an alley in the 3000 block of West Walnut Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood when he heard someone announce a robbery behind him, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The man took off running but soon realized he was shot in the leg. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where his condition was stabilized.
About 6:21 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot on the 1500 block of South Kedvale Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, News Affairs Officer Dan O'Brien said.
The victim suffered a wound to his thigh and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized, O'Brien said.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately available.
Area Central detectives were investigating.
