Jimmie Ollie, 40, of the 1400 block of West 71st Street, is accused of the May 29 murder of 36-year-old Scottie Cartledge, according to court records.
Ollie and Cartledge are both members of the Conservative Vice Lords gang and were at the same party May 29, Assistant State’s Attorney Bridget O’Brien said.
The two men began arguing about the different people they had each brought to the party on the 7500 block of South Carpenter, O’Brien said.
Cartledge was angry that Ollie brought a person who was rumored to have murdered Cartledge’s brother, she said.
The victim continued to argue with Ollie about his choice of friends until Ollie became angry and retrieved a gun from a car, O’Brien said.
Ollie came back and shot the victim in the chest, she said.
Cartledge died at the scene, she said.
Ollie fled the scene after the shooting but was identified by several witnesses as the triggerman, O’Brien said.
He also made statements prior to his arrest admitting that he shot and killed Cartledge, she said.
Ollie has nine prior felony convictions, including one in 1993 for attempted murder, O’Brien said.
